Winter - The best time to build your dream body

As the days get colder and the urge to stay in bed longer gets stronger, it’s hard to imagine that now is the best

time to hit the gym.

So why is “Now” the best time?

Well there are a few reasons, let’s explore.

Firstly, advantage, you will certainly have an advantage when the warmer weather rolls back around and you want to a little more skin, you will be ready immediately to do so. Often people don’t maintain their workouts during the colder months and think that as it gets closer to summer they will pick it back up again…WRONG.

It takes time to get back into shape, but you will be ready.

Secondly, metabolic conditioning, as we all know the cooler months seem to encourage more comfort foods, these comfort foods can be very detrimental to your waist line and overall body composition.

By maintaining or building extra muscle mass you support and encourage your body’s ability to burn calories for you….now this is not a free pass but it does give you some room to move and indulge from time to time. Furthermore muscle mass generates more heat then fat so as long as you keep your winter coat on you should retain all that generated heat and stay toasty warm

Thirdly, environment, no body wants to roll around in the wet, cold grass or be in the blistering wind or freezing rain, that’s how people get sick, can you afford to be sick? Outdoor group training is not expected to be consistent in the wetter, colder months, it fluctuates with every session making it hard for you to anticipate your next workout.

The gym is always dry, always consistent, and almost always enjoyable (Depending on your workout for the day)

Lastly and probably the most important, mood, we don’t want you to get S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

It is thought that due to less sunlight being available in the winter months your brain does not produce as much of the hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that has a soothing and calming effect, if you don’t have enough serotonin being produced you may get feelings of depression, fatigue and carbohydrate cravings.

But never fear you know what also boosts your serotonin levels?

Eercise does, it also produces various other “feel good” chemicals during your workout including endorphins and dopamine.

So with all this in mind it seems like the only way to get to or retain your dream body this winter is to get the gym, so what are you waiting for, NOW IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE J
